Flexaseal – choose seals for how the pump really runs, not just the nameplate

The seal is the pump component that fails most often, and replacing it "like-for-like" without understanding the cause means it will fail again. PlusSmart brings Flexaseal into the same conversation as vibration and operating data: when the data points to a seal problem, we specify the right seal and seal support system for the duty; when the data shows the pump is being pushed into dry running or dead-head, we fix that with ReliaPump – and still fit the right Flexaseal seal where needed.

In simple terms: a seal is like a gasket that keeps water from escaping along the pump shaft. It usually fails not because the seal is poor, but because the pump is run the wrong way (dry running, throttled valve) or the seal does not suit the liquid, temperature or pressure. Flexaseal has seals for the harshest conditions, plus split designs that can be replaced in place without dismantling the pump.

How it works

Seal selection process with PlusSmart

1stepsList repeat seal failures2stepsAnalyse operating conditions & data3stepsSelect seal + support system for the duty4stepsTrial on 1–2 heavy-duty pumps
Standard & engineered sealsFrom ordinary water pumps to harsh rotating equipment – each application is reviewed and quoted for its actual working conditions.
OEM replacement sealsEquivalent to the pump manufacturer's original seals, more readily available and with technical support.
Seal support systemsReservoirs, circulation pumps and cooling to API plans – so seals last in difficult conditions.
Fully split cartridge sealFlexaseal pioneered the split cartridge seal and leads in ease of installation and reliability – including dual seals.
Repair and refurbishmentRepair support through Flexaseal Australia.
Backed by dataWhen seals fail because of how the pump is operated, PlusSmart fixes the cause with ReliaPump instead of just replacing the seal.

What Flexaseal includes

Triple-Ply Metal Bellows

The only manufacturer currently offering triple-ply bellows – outstanding axial and radial strength for very high temperatures and extreme pressures.

  • Rated above 100,000 kPa
  • Typical applications: geothermal, boiler feed pumps in coal-fired power plants

FlexICE™ – low-temperature diamond coating

Diamond-like carbon applied by low-temperature PA-CVD (~160 °C), bonding to most materials including tungsten carbide.

  • Extremely durable seal faces under high pressure differentials
  • Tolerates dry running and poor lubrication for longer
  • Applications: boiler feed pumps, high-pressure slurry pumps, dewatering

Fully split cartridge seals

Flexaseal's original design, including dual seals.

  • Replace seals without removing the pump or pulling the shaft
  • Large-shaft pumps: water pumps, turbine pumps
  • Mining: tailings

How to start

List your most frequent repeat seal failures with operating conditions: liquid, temperature, pressure, speed, pump type.

PlusSmart reviews them together with operating data and proposes a trial seal for one or two of your hardest-working pumps – with an analysis of why the old seal failed.

FAQ

Flexaseal frequently asked questions

Can Flexaseal seals replace the OEM seals on our existing pumps?

Yes. Flexaseal has an OEM replacement range; PlusSmart confirms dimensions and conditions before quoting.

Why does a newly replaced seal fail after a few months?

Usually because of dry running, dead-head, cavitation or the wrong seal face material for the liquid/temperature. Fix the cause (ReliaPump, alignment) alongside choosing the right seal.

Do split seals seal as well as solid seals?

Flexaseal leads in split seals for both ease of installation and reliability, used on large-shaft, water and tailings pumps; selection depends on the specific duty.
